How to Back Up SD Card Data Before Formatting

Backing up our data before formatting the SD card is very important. This is because the common meaning of formatting is removing all the data in the SD card. Moreover, knowing that information is power, it is necessary that we continue to keep any information we already have, even when they prove to be less important at a time. SD card can as well be called Memory Card or Data card.

The minimal size of the SD card is one of the features that enable fast transfer of data between devices. Now, the frequent use of this little device does not come without a challenge and this has led us to the term ‘corrupt’. When this term ‘corrupt’ takes effect on your Momory, the only sensible thing to do is to format the Memory card which leads to data loss as I have said earlier.

Therefore, every reasonable person must save the information on his Memory card before starting the process of formatting. In this article, I have introduced two different methods by which you can back up the data on your SD card before formatting. It is worthy to note that these two methods are directly dependent on the memory size of the said SD card.

Backup a Small Memory SD Card

To successfully backup your data using these two methods, you will need a USB cable or card reader which will enable you to connect the SD card to the personal computer.
  • Connect your phone to a computer using USB cable.
  • Locate your phones’ external hard drive on the computer.
  • Double click on the external hard drive icon to open it.
  • Holding the Ctrl button, continue clicking on the folders to select as many as you want.
  • Click Ctrl C to copy the selected folders
  • Choose the location you want to save the data (desktop, documents, hard drive etc).
  • Click Ctrl V to paste the data on the chosen destination.

Backup a Large Memory SD Card

On SD cards with large memory, it will be too hectic to make use of the first method I have just introduced. Instead, I will recommend specialized free backup software that easily does the copy and paste automatically for you. The ‘EaseUs’ windows backup software is simplest way to backup your information using the personal computer.
  • Connect your SD card with the computer using phone and cable or card reader.
  • Launch ‘EaseUs’ backup software on your system.
  • Click on disk/partition backup.
  • Select the partition you want to backup.
  • Choose the location you want to send the data.
  • Click on proceed.
