Nigerian being one of the developing countries have equipped a Sickle Cell Treatment Hospital and has recorded tremendous success within the pas two years of establishment. Hope has come to Nigerian sickle cell patients as they can now be treated at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH). So far, 6 patience of Sickle Cell Anemia have been treated and their genotype changed from SS to AA and one AS depending on the donor.
The chief medical director (CMD) of the hospital, Professor Michael Ibadin, on a Television interview assured Nigerians of a total cure of the Sickle cell Anemia and that the success achieved was through a collaboration with the University of Basel Switzerland providing the technical support using a machine identified as cobe spectra which would drain the blood through one arm and replace it through the other arm at the same time.
However, this approach carries a high risk. The best cure is knowing your genotype and making sure that you marry the one that your genotype matches. Please keep love out of this.
